But God (II)
By Sister Toyin
Fasosin
But God who is rich in
mercy, because of His great love with which He has loved us, even when we were
dead in trespasses made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been
saved), and raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenly
places in Christ Jesus,
That in the ages to
come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us
in Christ Jesus, for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that
not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should
boast.” (Eph. 2: 4-9)
God is rich in mercy!
Rich:
full, abounding, fertile, saturated, intense,
extreme, excessive, overgenerous
Mercy:
loving kindness, favor, compassion, understanding
There is nothing stingy or miserly
about God, He is extremely and intensely compassionate, overgenerous in favor,
saturated in loving kindness. Glory!!
“The Lord is merciful
and gracious; slow to anger abounding in mercy. He will not always strive with
us, nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to
our sins nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are
high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him.” (Ps.
103: 8-10)
“For all have sinned
and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through
the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”
(Rom. 3: 23-24)
Mercy is not getting what (the
punishment) we deserve; grace is getting what (the blessing) we do not deserve.
We often complain and say “I don’t deserve this”
Don’t even go there; we deserve to go
to hell and to have the devil use us as his foot mat on our way there. The wages
of sin is death and all have sinned and come short of the glory of God therefore
we all deserve death which includes sickness, calamity, pain, poverty and hell.
God has justified us freely by His grace through the redemption which is in
Christ Jesus.
The only reason we are delivered from
sickness, calamity, pain, poverty and hell is not because we have earned it but
because of His loving kindness, favor and understanding.
