Your Potential In Christ Jesus (1)
By Ola Olafunmiloye
Text: Romans 12:6-8 (NLT)
"God has given each of us the
ability to do certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to
prophesy, speak out when you have faith that God is speaking through you. If
your gift is that of serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, do a
good job of teaching. If your gift is to encourage others, do it! If you have
money, share it generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the
responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others,
do it gladly."
Potential is defined as having possibility,
capability, or power to become. It is something you are capable of being but you
are not yet. The actual versus the possible! What is versus what
can be!
Another very interesting definition says that
potential is possessing the inherent ability or capacity for growth,
development, or coming into being.
When something is inherent, it means it was
present at birth, you were born with it, and it is in your nature though not
readily apparent. People may not know that you have it. You may not even know
that you possess it, but God knows.
You are worth
more than you think you are!
Everyone of us is born with potential, with
deposits of treasures. It is a great responsibility that God has placed on us.
We should also view it as a privilege. Remember the parable of the talents. Two
of the servants took the responsibility seriously and doubled the treasures
given to them, but one of them hid his own because he was afraid. He gave
excuses but he was not excused. Even the one talent he was given had potential
in it as we saw in his masters reply to him (Luke 19:23). No matter how small
you think the talents or abilities you have is there is potential in them.
The question to you is this “what are you going
to do with the treasures that have been deposited in you”? Are you going to
maximize the potential of the treasures or are you going to hide them?
